The Daily: All In My Head

 Wednesday, March 16, 2022

4:50 am: Getting out of bed. I was hearing sounds outside the bedroom wall for awhile, I though maybe an animal was rubbing against the side of the house. Turns out to be a patio umbrella that escaped in the wind knocking against the house. At least it wasn't a mountain lion or coyote.

5:00 am: Putting on my gym clothes while still thinking about a lovely dream I had and about writing a few words about what it feels like to dream. I am really all up in my head this morning.

5:15 am: Get to gym about five minutes earlier than usual and I found out who uses my treadmill and leaves the incline up. This has been a mystery for months now. Look at me, solving mysterious sounds outside the house and who it is the leaves my treadmill with the incline up all in the same morning. And it's not even 6 am.

6:30 am: Out of the shower and thinking about what my least favorite things I do all day are: #1 Blow dry my hair, #2 Drive my kid to school #3 Drive my kid home from school (yikes, I really hate driving to school).

7:12 am: Finally drinking a coffee, thinking about writing a story about Starbucks scaling back on their use of disposable cups for The News With No Sound.

7:36 am: Running really late for school. Had to have a quiet stern talk with the kid about getting his shit together. I hate getting into it with him before school, really sets the day off in a bad way.

8:10 am: Took forever to get home, stepped into the kid's room and it's a disaster, things getting better by the minute.

9:05 am: Listening to R.L. Stine Masterclass (it is hilarious, he is killing me) and vacuuming, life is glamorous, what can I say?

10:13 am: Read a few pages of my new book, Half Empty by David Rakoff, very funny, very smart. I may not be bright enough for this one, thanks public school education.

12:35 pm: I love writing, but sometimes I will literally do anything other than write. It's not a block, it's that I am a sucker for distraction.

1:50 pm: Ran by the market to grab a soda and more junk food, when I was putting my cash into the little machine one of my dollars was folded, as I tried to straighten it out I tore the whole edge off of it, then I had to try to get the machine to take the dollar and the little corner piece. Give me a break.

2:25 pm: Walking the dog in the school neighborhood with the trash man always one or two houses behind me banging on trash cans. Banging Trashcans sounds like the name of a band from the eighties.

3:59 pm: Published a creative writing post here on the blog about sleeping and dreaming, it was one of the things bouncing around in my head when I opened my eyes this morning. Feels good to write something and put it out in the world so fast.

6:00 pm: Dinner and a glass of wine. The kid ate all his dinner in like a minute, teenagers eat a lot.

6:40 pm: Took the dog for a walk and finally found the peacocks that are making all those screaming sounds in the neighborhood.

8:00 pm: Sitting down with a glass of wine to watch another movie I borrowed from the library, this is becoming a thing that I do. The movie is Obvious Child with Jenny Slate, she cracks me up, loving her.
